(This letter to Margaret while she was enrolled at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, shows Sandzén's deep feelings and kind nature in his role as father.) Lindsborg, Kans. February 8, 1928 My precious, little Margaret: Many, many thanks for your dear letter! I am frightfully busy today sending out an exhibition, giving lessons, one lecture, etc. Therefore only a line. Nothing makes me so sorry as when you are unhappy, and nothing wears me out so thoroughly. Over-work, nervousness etc. is nothing compared to that. Dearest, please remember this, we can only be truly happy, when we are willing to forget and forgive. We are responsible only for ourselves, not for others, their faults, their mistakes, etc. We are all imperfect. When you can truthfully tell me that you are happy and at peace with everything and everybody, remembering how many blessings you and we are enjoying, after all, I shall be happy also. "Hate" poisons ourselves and those we meet. Let us forever throw it overboard, dearest little Margaret! God bless my darling! with warm love, x x x Father |
